our last day in Florida

was on Tuesday. I'm a bit behind on updates since I didn't have internet connection from Tuesday until today. Here are the highlights from the last day...

Baba (the name I call my Grandmother) was up at 4am making one last batch of perogies for us to take back home. Here's a pic of the fresh 'rogies. She said they turned out beautiful! (Baba was in her nightgown and would not allow any pictures. Of course I respected her wishes.)

Then later in the morning when I stepped outside to take out the trash I was greeted by this friendly black snake. He was not scared, and stayed that way in the grass, just watching me take pictures of him. I'm not afraid of snakes, I grew up with a few of them thanks to my Dad. Many of his practical jokes often involved a live snake or two.

To quote the words of Baba again, "She is beautiful." All snakes are female according to Baba and also very beautiful.

And finally, as we're driving off for the airport, I snapped a quick photo of Baba waving a tearful goodbye. She's got her handkerchief in hand. It's always sad to say goodbye. She's a beautiful person.

You got homemade perogies... I am SO jealous. What flavor? Potatoe, cheese... please make me more jealous -

I think I'll stop at Trader Joes to get a box - although my grandma would faint if she caught me buying frozen perogies. That is a no no in our house....

And how can you be SO afraid of spiders and bugs but this huge black snake that could bit you - you think is cute - that is just wrong!

Oh, I am soooo hungry right now! Your grandmother is wonderful to do all that work for you. A testament to her love and affection for you because 91 or not, making handmade pierogies is HARD WORK!

Funny what things mean in different cultures. I call my father "Baba" and my grandmother is "Bobo". Too funny!

Welcome back to the "best" coast. :-)

Yes, I am very spoiled with the perogies! I wish I could share them with all of you fellow perogie lovers!

The snake was actually really cute. If he was just a head, he'd make a cute pet. But I do admit I'm not so fond of the long slimy body. Maybe if he had the body of a fluffy hamster, but with his cute head, I'd have one as a pet.

KBL, once I am finished with household chores, laundry, clean up (leaving the husband and 2 animals alone in the house for a week creates A LOT OF CLEAN UP!) I plan on sitting down with a glass of wine, with a box of kleenex to catch up on your blog. I have to tell you the tears were streaming down my face at Panera bread when I read about Nick's passing. I almost feel like I met Nick while he was alive through you telling me about him in the comments on my blog. At least I could picture him in my mind. I'm so glad you started your blog. I hope you don't mind but I'd love to add yours to my links.

Tell your Baba hello from me!

Ok, back to trying to get the paint of my kitchen dishtowels.

Hi Smiley,

I would be honored if if you added my blog to your links, but only if I can do the same with yours!

I was telling one of my Chicago girlfriends about your blog. We recently had the "pop vs. soda" argument at our house.

Hey, I'm so freakin' relieved that Barry Bonds did NOT reach the milestone while playing the Cubs!!!

I hear ya on the mess that Da Boy can make when left on his own. Funny how he is always after me to stop being a "slob", but when I'm gone he reverts to college days. Double Standard!

:-)

Oh, and thanks for your thoughtfulness about my Nick. I regret I didn't start the blog sooner so that I could capture his every day antics.

He meant so much to me. I miss him.
