I want my meat and potatoes...

NOW!

When talking with people who have lived here for a while there is a common theme. Everyone says, "Just wait til July when it really warms up. It stays warm through September!" When I do the math, that's only 3 months of warmth. Now I understand the cold rainy weather that is upon us for the next several months will definitely make me appreciate those 3 months of warmth, but why wait when one could have that 365 days a year!?!? I'm just starting to freak out a bit because I'm really cold all the time and I don't think I'm going to last until July.

To me that's like sticking a nice juicy plate of succulent prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes in front of someone and saying, "Just wait til next Spring to take a bite."

Maybe I should become a Vegetarian. I have a feeling I'm going to be a vegetable for the next 9 months anyway, so what the hell.

awwww. That is quite the comparison. But you have Tom. You have the crazed animals. Don't they keep you warm??? No.
Oh, I heard someone was making a hat for you. Perhaps that will help soon!!!!
Now I am craving beef. thanks.

you should stop complaining about the cold so much and focus on how beautiful the city actually is. I've lived in Seattle my whole life and it's great. I used to read your blog everyday but now all u do is bitch and moan about Seattle.

You should invest in a heated mattress pad if you don't have one already. I live in Pensacola, FL and the lows have been in the 30's this past week. I know to some that may not seem cold, but to a born and raised Floridian that is inhumane. But the heated mattress pad REALLY works. Especially when you add an electric blanket.

anon - I'd prefer you stop reading this blog if you're going to take offense to my adjustments to living here. I have stated in the past that Seattle is probably the most beautiful city in the US, I do see it's beauty, -it's the blasted clouds and rain that I can't f*cking stand. I can't live in a climate that has more clouds than sun and is cold. I realized that when I left Chicago and I'm realizing it again now. Some people may not have a hard time with the weather and that's fantastic for them but it's not me. I want to get in my car and drive straight home on the days like today. Aside from that I miss my family, my friends, everything about our life back home. I never wanted to move away, even if it was to another warm climate. So sorry I'm having a hard time with that!

I stand corrected, the sun is peeping through right now so today may not be a gray dank day of misery. And the house temp has warmed up to get this...58 degrees!!! OH JOY!

And unless anyone can control weather patterns, global warming, or tell God what to do, I really don't think they should take my opinion on the weather personally. Isn't that the point of a blog? To express your own thoughts/ opinions/ experiences?? If I'm wrong about that I welcome comments.

I think you're absolutely right about blogging – it’s a great way to express your thoughts, opinions and experiences. Isn’t that the stuff that makes life more interesting anyway – other people’s perspectives? I’d hate to think how boring things would be if we all had the same thoughts and opinions. I've followed your blog for awhile now and I always enjoy your sense of humor. I'm from Minnesota so I have a hard time understanding how 58 degrees can be considered “cold” but I realize it’s all relative :o) I’ve been to Seattle twice - once in July and once in December. I much prefer July. Hang in there, it’s worth the wait!

I agree with you Laura. Hope you don't let those comments bug for longer than a split moment. But, kudos to you for leaving the comment there and not deleting it. This blog is your very own little corner in the behemoth that is the Internet, and the Constitution of our amazing nation provides you with the protection to speak your thoughts about Seattle.

With that said, I would also like to add that a lot of us sometimes forget that what we may post on a our blogs that describe a tiny moment of our entire day does NOT in any way describe or depict who or what we are ALL the time, every waking minute. It is a stream of consciousness blurb that we slap on the blog wall and watch it stick. No more and no less.

Adjusting to new situations is hard enough, but adjusting to a situation that is 180 from what we know is even more insane. Not one of us can ever experience being in your shoes, other than the brief few moments you allow us to be, so none of us will ever know everything there is to know about your adjustment, you know?

Yes, you are using your blog to express your frustration with your move, but you have also used it to try to find the rays of light in this change in your life as well, as so perfectly proven by your second comment here.

The only person missing out by not reading your blog is anon. The operative word being "your", of course.

Keep it up dear Golden friend. We miss you down here. :-)

Um...

Why would you want to eat a piece of Prime Rib that's been left out for three months?

I need to take Analogies 101.

Thanks my blogging buddies! And it's very true kbl, I only express a few tidbits of what's going on when I have the time to sit and do so. I definitely have more things in my life that I don't share on here that keep me pre-occupied from my complaints of the cold! But hell, a girl can bitch when she needs to!

anon in Minnesota- I lived in Minnesota for a year so I can relate to the EXTREME cold for sure! I'm talking about 58 degrees in my house. We have zero warmth in this house, as I type I'm wearing my coat and scarf and it's still cold. The other day it was actually warmer outside than in our home. Trying to cook/clean or just do random everyday household stuff in a big fuzzy coat is next to impossible! I am fully prepared for the cold when I step outside and always bundle up but I'm sick of having to do so in what should be the "comforts" of home. I was warmer inside when living in Minnesota, even in the dead of winter! At least the good thing is, we are only renting this place so the house we end up purchasing will have a better heating system. At least I hope! I'm sending warm thoughts your way too!

58 degree temperatures inside a home is frigid! I would not be comfortable in that and i have a lot more meat on my bones. You are very thin so I can understand why your suffering.

I hope for your sake that something can be done before the temperature drops in the winter. At least its only 6 mos. Hang in there!

Ok, now I understand; thanks for the clarification. 58 degrees INSIDE sounds more like camping than living! I can honestly say my Minnesota home has never been (and will never be) 58 degrees inside. Wishing you some warmth today, perhaps in the form of a Hot Buttered Rum :o)
